Copper Mine Tours Copper Harbor |
|
If you have time to visit only one attraction in the Keweenaw, make it Delaware Mine, the area's premier tourist attraction, where copper was mined from 1847 - 1887. The tour will take you down Shaft No. 1 to the first level (at a depth of 110 ft.) where you'll see pure veins of copper exposed in the mine walls along with other geologic interests. Above ground, browse the gift shop/museum or take the walking trails to the mine ruins, saw mill, large antique engine display, and train collection featuring "G" scale and 7 1/2" gauge. Stop by the zoo to visit the miniature deer or search the rock piles of souvenir copper. Come see where copper mining began. Spend a day in Delaware, where you won't just see history - you'll feel it! Open seven days a week, mid-May to mid-October. Located 12 miles south of Copper Harbor on US-41. Phone 906/289-4688 or 906/337-3333. See our web page via www.copperharbor.org or www.pasty.com.
