The many waterways offer opportunities for canoeing as well as the newest water sport kayaking. The list of excellent river sites include the Paint, the Iron, the Brule, and the Michigamme. There are also lakes that make perfect venues for excursions. Chicaugon, Fortune, Sunset, and Runkle are just a few of the lakes for that boating fun.

Summer is a great time to visit one of Iron County's golf courses. The George Young Recreational Complex offers a challenging 18-hole course while the Iron River Country Club and Crystal View Golf Courses feature 9 holes of sport.

While outdoor recreation is abundant during the summer, there are also many events that take place. The Iron County Museum in Caspian is a central site for heritage as well as special events. The museum is considered one of the top historical sites in Michigan with its 25 buildings that make up Heritage Village. The museum has a full schedule of special events to augment the tours that take place, events such as Scandinavian Day, Italian Day, and Ferrous Frolics. The museum is home of the Lee LeBlanc Wildlife Art Gallery. The Harbour House Museum in Crystal Falls, Amasa Museum, and the newly developed Alpha Museum each preserve part of Iron County history.

There are many other events dotting the summer schedule. The Father's Day Antique Car Show, the Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo, and the Iron County Fair in Iron River along with Rum Rebellion Days, the Lions Club Bass Festival and the Humoungus Fungus Fest in Crystal Falls provide unique opportunities for the visitors.

The fall season in Iron County is one of Nature's Best. The color tour is a celebration of outdoor art. The Iron County Museum in Caspian holds its Pie Social in Sept. and its 10-day Christmas Tree Galleria in Nov. The Potato Fest is held in Mansfield Township in Oct. And throughout the year, the historic Crystal Theatre features programs including performances with its unique Pipe Organ.
