About Marquette County

One can smell the crisp fresh air and sense the distinct aromas of fall. With the sound of rustling leaves swirling in a kaleidoscope of color followed by after hours spectacular ribbons of Northern Lights, the changing of the season is an experience in itself.

As Mother Nature gives us a blanket of snow, she sets the stage for numerous winter activities and events. Thousands come for our U.P. 200 Sled Dog Race, the Noquemanon Cross-Country Ski Race, Marquette Mountain's Snowmobile Hill Climb and Ishpeming's International Ski Jumping Tournament, just to name a few.
Snowmobiling enthusiasts can play on over 500 miles of groomed trails. Ice fish, ski, snowshoe and dogsled in our blanket of white. Then finish off with an exhilarating Finnish sauna.
Charters offer trips to Stannard Rock for memorable Lake Trout fishing, as well as Harbor and Lighthouse Cruises. Guide services are available year 'round for historic and all season wilderness adventures in the mountains of Big Bay.
Challenging golf courses, several museums, unique shopping districts, diverse antique shops along with the area's many art studios and galleries round out your visit. Don't miss Northern Michigan University and the Superior Dome, one of the largest wooden dome structures in the world.
