Launched in 1917 by the American Shipbuilding Company of Lorain, OH, the ore carrier VALLEY CAMP now serves as a floating museum for Great Lakes Maritime History. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 550' ship logged over 3 million miles before being taken out of service in 1966.

Today, she holds the largest Great Lakes Maritime Museum with over 100 fascinating exhibits inside her cavernous cargo holds. Conveniently equipped with an access ramp, visitors can view the engine room with its 1800 h.p. triple expansion steam engine and two coal-fired Scotch boilers, the crew's quarters, and the Pilot House. The VALLEY CAMP also contains an exhibit featuring 2 of the lifeboats from the ill-fated Edmund Fitzgerald plus comprehensive videos on her demise.

The VALLEY CAMP and Museum Gift Shop, the Ship's Store, are located at 501 E. Water St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.

Hours are: mid-May thru June 10am - 4pm; July thru late Aug. 9am - 6pm; late Aug. thru Sept. 9am - 5pm; Oct. 1 - mid-Oct. 9:30am - 5pm.
