11th Annual Baraga County Lake Trout Festival

Baraga County has been named the Lake Trout Capital of the Great Lakes and the free (no admission charge) festival will combine the Keweenaw Classic Fishing Tournament with family-oriented events such as kids’ carnival, "Little Miss Superior" contest, Kids’ Fishing Pond, Pie-Eating contest, Beach Volleyball tournament, Pequaming Run and 1/2 marathon, Junk Art contest, Cribbage tournament, Tour de L’Anse Bike Race sponsored by the Fitness Center of Baraga County Memorial Hospital, and the firemen’s street dance on Saturday night. 1/2 marathon, 8 mile run, 8 mile walk, Family 5K, 52 mile bike race and 22 mile leisure bike ride.

Bewabic State Park - 6th Annual Total Women in the Outdoors

Join the DNR and our partners at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in this growing event as we experience many different ways for women to enjoy the outdoors. Activities, prizes, and food will be provided. Activities have ranged from kayaking, outdoor cooking, fishing, photography, GPS, outdoor survival and much more! Ladies, you do not want to miss this event. There are activities for all ages. Bring your friends, mom, daughter, sister, grandmother or neighbor - it is a great time! Pre-registration is available and is preferred. You can register through Aspirus Iron River Hospital by calling 906-265-0477. Please register upon arrival to the park. The event will be cancelled due to inclement weather with an alternate rain date of Thursday, June 23. Start times will remain the same. Fort Wilkins Historic State Park - 30th Anniversary Battery D Civil War Encampment

History comes alive at Fort Wilkins. Battery D, 1st Michigan Light Artillery, a Civil War era living history group returns to Fort Wilkins for its 31st annual weekend encampment. The weekend event will be open to park visitors from 8 AM to 8 PM on Friday and Saturday and 8 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. Battery D will interpret army life of the period, demonstrating artillery and small arms drills, period cooking and soldiers’ pastimes. A Michigan State or Out of State Recreation Passport is required for entry into the park.

Fort Wilkins Historic State Park - Meteors & S'mores

Located at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, Fort Wilkins State Park is a perfect place for stargazing. During our celebration of the Perseid Meteor shower enjoy that sticky gooey campfire favorite in the day use area by the Fort Parking Lot. Then at 10 p.m., after cleaning up from our gooey treat, join Joel Kimball, Professor at Gannon University, on the Parade Grounds to view stars, planets, galaxies and more via high powered telescopes. The Perseid Meteor shower can be viewed between August 8-15. It is best viewed early in the morning but can be seen anytime after dusk. In the chance of rain this program will occur on August 9.
