Rendezvous at the Straits Powwow

Location: Father Marquette National Memorial, St Ignace
A Rendezvous at the Straits French Voyager Reenactment and Powwow, a family event celebrating the history of the St. Ignace area, will take place Saturday, August 22, through Sunday, August 23, 2014, at the Father Marquette National Memorial, just off US-2 west of I-75 in St. Ignace. Admission is $4.00 for elders, children 5 and under are free, and $5.00 for everyone else. This is really two events in one -- part French voyager re-enactment and part traditional Powwow. Visit the French encampments, watch demonstrations, visit vendors displaying authentic wares, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Native dancing and drumming ceremonies. Traditional Native American food will be available. Topping off Saturday’s activities will be fireworks over the bay at 10:00 p.m. in downtown St. Ignace!

40th Annual UP Steam and Gas Engine Show

From its humble beginnings in 1975, our annual Labor Day show has grown into one of the best events in the region. Exhibitors come from near and far, bringing an ever-changing display of tractors, gas engines and vintage farm equipment. The Heritage Village provides a charming old-fashioned backdrop for a variety of traditional handicrafts from local artisans. Be sure to see our working sawmill and stop by the Agricultural Museum to browse an eclectic collection of antiques and artifacts. There is also a large flea market, as well as a knife and gun expo. And if you’re hungry, there is plenty of good food on the grounds. While we hope that you enjoy our show, our purpose is not simply to entertain you. As part of our efforts to preserve our past heritage, we strive to educate current generations about the machinery our forefathers used.

59th Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

Join thousands of walkers and make the five-mile trek across the Mighty Mackinac Bridge! This annual trek occurs on Labor Day, the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge. Walkers begin in St. Ignace at the north end of the Bridge and walk south. The walk is one-way, and bus transportation is available to return you to St. Ignace until 2:30 p.m. The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. No one will be permitted to start walking after 11:00 a.m.





To alleviate some of the parking congestion at the Bridge View Park area, the Mackinac Bridge Authority, in cooperation with the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce, is providing FREE shuttle service from Little Bear East Arena, 275 Marquette Street in St. Ignace, to the bridge walk start line. Shuttles will make continuous circuits from Little Bear East Arena to the Bridge View Park and back between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. For more information visit www.stignace.com

Munising Bay Car Show

This is our annual car cruise / car show held the 3 rd week end of September ever year. This years event starts Fri nite Sept 16th @ 5pm with a cruise around Alger county . We leave the shopko parking lot in Wetmore , go threw Munising , down M-28 along Lake Superior to AuTrain , around AuTrain lake to hwy M-94 back to Munising , ending at Sydney's resturant for an evening of music & food . Drinks are byo There will be a small cover charge, There will be door prizes given away. The following day is the car show. Show starts at 10am and will go to 4 pm. The first 100 registered cars received a goodie bag full of great items and a great gift supplied by the local merchants and automotive suppliers. There will be music, activities, food and displays through out the day. This is a paid entrance fee show, with judging by the car owners. Our show benefits our local vets and the WWP. We are a non profit organization.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore announces Au Sable Day, Saturday, September 17, 11 am - 4 pm. The day includes free disabled accessible bus shuttle service to the lighthouse from the lower Hurricane River Campground, tours of the light station and fog signal building, and refreshments.
Visitors riding the free ALTRAN shuttle bus should board at the Hurricane River bridge or lower campground parking lots. Hurricane River Campground is 12 miles west of Grand Marais, MI on Alger County H-58.
The Au Sable Light Station was constructed in 1874, and has shone its light to guide mariners for over 138 years.
Au Sable Day also celebrates Public Lands Day, an annual appreciation of federal lands open to all for a variety of recreation, renewal, and education. Join us for a beautiful fall color day looking out over Lake Superior!

Tahquamenon Wilderness Canoe Race

The GREAT RACE from the Lower Falls to Lake Superior; Start the morning with this 17 1/2 mile, two-person professional canoe race as the paddlers brave the waters of the Tahquamenon River from the Lower Tahquamenon Falls to Lake Superior. A shorter (6 1/2 mile) one-person race begins at 3:30 at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River. A fun run for amateur paddlers is also offered. MCRA members conclude the event with a banquet and awards program.

Soo Locks Engineers Weekend 2016

Location: Soo Locks, Cloverland Electric Hydroelectric Plant, and City Hall Sault Ste. Marie, MI
Three events in one day! Get up close and personal with Lake Freighters this Engineers Day. Visitors are able to walk out across the walls of the Soo Locks and explore the historic buildings 9am-4pm free admission. Cloverland Electric Cooperative will host its annual hydroelectric plant open house 9am to 4pm free admission. The Sault Arts, Crafts and Family Fun Fair will sprawl across the City Hall lawn overlooking historic Water Street and the St. Mary’s River 10am-5pm.

2017 Sault Tribe Pow-Wow & Summer Gathering

Join us for exciting dance and drum competition, handmade crafts authentic food and more awaits. The Pow-Wow, or Jiigtamok, has historical, social and spiritual value to the American Indian people. Rendezvous in the Sault

Location: City Hall Grounds and Historic Homes, Sault Ste Marie
Rendezvous in the Sault is a living history event that will take place along Historic Water Street at the City Hall Grounds and at the Historic Homes. Local and visiting historical re-enactors will set up camps and displays with presentations and demonstrations on military and civilian life in the period of 1668-1840. Food, music, dancing, cannon firing, storytelling, crafts and games will be just some of the fun things to see and do on Saturday and Sunday of the last full weekend of July.
