19th Annual Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race

The Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race features over 60 teams from across the continent. Classes include 4-dog, 6-dog, 8-dog and 10-dog, the races begin at 9:30am, with a new team taking off every few minutes. Come out to pet the dogs, meet the teams, and cheer them on during this all-day event! Activities include a bonfire and refreshments as well as food and merchandise concessions.



Volunteers are needed to assist at the start/finish line, checkpoints, road crossings, concession and awards banquet.

The Barneløpet (pronounced BAR-nuh-lop-it) first began in 1987 and was modeled after the “Barnebirke,” a children’s cross-county ski race held each year as a part of the world-famous American “Birkebeiner” held in Hayward, Wisconsin. Our Barneløpet has been held annually for 11 years on the second Sunday in February to encourage kids and families to get out and enjoy our winter snow season. New this year – kids will participate for free, thanks to sponsorship from the Portage Health Foundation.

UP 200, Midnight Run & Jack Pine 30

Location: Marquette to Grand Marais
The UP200 is one of America's premier 12-dog, mid-distance sled dog races and draws mushers from around the United States and Canada. The UP200 is an Iditarod qualifying race. Coinciding with the UP200 is the eight-dog Midnight Run, a race from Marquette to Chatham. The Midnight Run, or MNR, draws premier teams wanting to test their skill on a technically challenging trail. The JackPine 30 rounds out the weekend’s fun with a six-dog, 30-mile sprint from Gwinn, Michigan to Marquette.

Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship

Join us in 2018 as we celebrate the 12th anniversary of the Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship in St. Ignace, Michigan. St. Ignace is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, home of one of the largest pond hockey tournaments in North America, and the largest tournament in Michigan. The Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship will be played on Moran Bay, part of beautiful Lake Huron, one of the only locations where our 'pond' is actually one of the Great Lakes! In 2015 we had 200 teams, from 11 states, play over 320 games! We have several age and skill divisions, so your team can compete against others of the same skill level. Format of the games is: 4 on 4 hockey with NO GOALIES on thirty 75 'x 150' outside rinks with snow bank boards played on the 'wild ice' of Moran Bay in Lake Huron. Teams are guaranteed three games, and division winners will receive Labatt's sportsgear and a hardwood championship cup.

Great Lakes Endurance Tahquamenon Snowshoe Race

All events start at the Upper Tahquamenon Falls. The 10K includes 5K of machine groomed trail and 5K of packed single track. The course includes spectacular views of the Upper Falls and travels through forested sections of towering old growth white pines. The 20K course consists of two loops of the 10K. The 5K and the kid’s 800 meter are single machine groomed tracks.

61st Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

Location: Mackinac Bridge
Join thousands of walkers and make the five-mile trek across the Mighty Mackinac Bridge! This annual trek occurs on Labor Day, the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge. Walkers begin in St. Ignace at the north end of the Bridge and walk south. The walk is one-way, and bus transportation is available to return you to St. Ignace until 2:30 p.m. The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. No one will be permitted to start walking after 11:00 a.m.





To alleviate some of the parking congestion at the Bridge View Park area, the Mackinac Bridge Authority, in cooperation with the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce, is providing FREE shuttle service from Little Bear East Arena, 275 Marquette Street in St. Ignace, to the bridge walk start line. Shuttles will make continuous circuits from Little Bear East Arena to the Bridge View Park and back between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. For more information visit www.stignace.com

Tahquamenon Wilderness Canoe Race

The GREAT RACE from the Lower Falls to Lake Superior; Start the morning with this 17 1/2 mile, two-person professional canoe race as the paddlers brave the waters of the Tahquamenon River from the Lower Tahquamenon Falls to Lake Superior. A shorter (6 1/2 mile) one-person race begins at 3:30 at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River. A fun run for amateur paddlers is also offered. MCRA members conclude the event with a banquet and awards program.

The Haunted Trail
