Marquette YMCA Run/Walk 2018

Location: YMCA of Marquette County
The course runs along beautiful Lake Superior, starting and finishing at the YMCA of Marquette County and promises to be a fun fitness event for the whole family. The event is open to all and includes a 10 mile, 10k, 5k and a 5K non competitive walk, one mile youth run and a toddler trot. Family fun, activities and refreshments will be provided throughout the morning. Registration for this event will be taken at either YMCA of Marquette County. 5th Annual Iron Range Roll

The Iron Range Roll is a 16 mile point to point fun (but timed) race from Ishpeming to Marquette along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail (IOHT). This relay/run/bicycle event celebrates the heritage and recreational culture of Marquette County – all in the name of giving back to our community’s youth through the YMCA of Marquette County’s “Reach & Rise” youth mentoring program. Along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, from downtown Ishpeming to the iconic Ore Dock in Marquette, recreational and community enthusiasts of all ages will participate in a friendly timed downhill excursion on foot, bicycle, or as part of a relay team. Proceeds from the race will benefit the YMCA's Reach and Rise program.

Yoopers Ride Free provided by Pictured Rocks Cruises: If you are interested in taking the free cruise, live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and weather-permitting, cruises will depart every hour on the hour from the Munising City Pier on Saturday, June 9 and 10 starting at 9:00 a.m. and running until 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10 with a limit of 1,500 free tickets available per day. In order to obtain your free ticket, you must present in person a photo ID with an Upper Peninsula address at the Pictured Rocks Cruise ticket office those days. A child must be accompanied by a parent in the ticket office to receive a ticket.

43rd Annual Pictured Rocks Road Race

Location: Munising
The 43rd Annual Pictured Rocks Road Race will be held Sunday June 24, 2018 in the picturesque town of Munising, Michigan, the gateway to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The race features a 1/2 marathon and 10k route that travel along a combination of paved roads and two-track trails. The race starts and ends in the heart of Munising at Bay Shore Park on the southern shores of Lake Superior. From the start you head west out of town on the road towards Tourist Park Campground, at which point you head south onto a two-track road that brings you up onto the hill that overlooks the west side of town. The 10k route cuts back down the hill towards town and Bay Shore Park while the 1/2 marathon continues atop the hill weaving through the surrounding forest until returning back to town down St. Martin's Hill. The 1/2 Marathon course continues across town to Cemetery Hill and tours through the east end of Munising until returning to Bay Shore Park.

The course follows the perimeter trail of the island counterclockwise up past Murray Bay and Duck Lake. At three miles the course heads eastward into the Tombolo, up into the island's thumb and then back along Trout Bay where runners can enjoy one of the most spectacular stretches of shoreline anywhere in the Great Lakes. Runners then ascend up the eastern cliffs of the island which treat runners to views of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The northern half of the island features 300ft colored Jacobsville sandstone cliffs and the remote and exquisitely beautiful North Beach. The return trail on the island’s western shore features remarkable vistas of Lake Superior. Much of the trail is shaded by lush hardwood forests. Exposed sections (atop cliffs) blanket runners with cool breezes off of Lake Superior. Trail includes single track, two track, and narrow dirt roads.

A Rendezvous at the Straits French Voyager Reenactment and Powwow, a family event celebrating the history of the St. Ignace area, will take place at the Father Marquette National Memorial, just off US-2 west of I-75 in St. Ignace. Geocacher's will be able to find several temporary caches placed at historical, geological, and natural significant sites in and around the State Park.

Tahquamenon Wilderness Canoe Race

The GREAT RACE from the Lower Falls to Lake Superior; Start the morning with this 17 1/2 mile, two-person professional canoe race as the paddlers brave the waters of the Tahquamenon River from the Lower Tahquamenon Falls to Lake Superior. A shorter (6 1/2 mile) one-person race begins at 3:30 at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River. A fun run for amateur paddlers is also offered. MCRA members conclude the event with a banquet and awards program.
