28th Annual Kids Fishing Day at Seney National Wildlife Refuge

Join us for Children's Fishing Day - Catch the Excitement! Saturday, June 24th, 2017, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in cooperation with the Seney Natural History Association, invites you to participate in the 27th Annual Children’s Fishing Day. On the day of the event young anglers are required to register at the Visitor Center before fishing. Fish entries will be accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Fishing stations will be set up along the Refuge’s Fishing Loop. A limited amount of fishing poles and bait are available for participants to use at these stations. Fishing is allowed from the shore along designated fishing pools and show pools. Lead sinkers are not allowed. Activities and games for the whole family begin at 12:00 p.m. in the Visitor Center and include arts and crafts, games, and activities. Certificates will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners for largest perch and pike in four age categories. Prizes, provided by local businesses, will be awarded by random drawing. A complimentary fish dinner for all participants and their families will be held at 3:00 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.

Fireworks at dusk. Please do not park on US2. The Manistique 4th of July Parade starts at 12:30pm from Chippewa and Deer Streets. It travels over the Siphon Bridge and continues down Cedar Street toward US-2, through downtown. Bring a chair and enjoy our annual Fourth of July Parade! There is plenty of parking behind the downtown stores. Come early and enjoy breakfast downtown! Don't forget to have your children bring a bag, as lots of candy is given out during the parade! Music and Arts and Craft Show----Immediately after the parade browse the arts and craft show at the marina, at the end of Cedar Street and US-2. Annual Bass Fishing Tournament at Vagabond Park on Twin Falls Flowage is sure to become a summer favorite. Either a Wisconsin or Michigan fishing licence can be used for this tournament. The tournament registration begins at 5am with a 6am start time. Weigh in is scheduled for 4pm. The cost is $75/boat with a 50 boat maximum so register early. There is a $2000 minimum pot. Soda and ice cream novelties will be available with other smaller snack food at the Badwater Ski-Ters concession booth. The place to be on July 11th is the Badwater Bass Tourney....... See you there!

27th Annual North Country 100 Bike Race

Location: Sunday Lake, Wakefield
Riders will travel over rolling terrain, past lakes and forests and enjoy the wildflowers and scenery of the Upper Peninsula. Routes for the 100 mile and 100 kilometer are designed with more experienced riders in mind. The 25 mile route follows a moderate terrain. All three tours are open to any rider aged 12 and older, so riders should keep in mind their own limits. Check Point/Aid stations will be provided along the route, upon return a meal will be available. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All riders are required to have helmets.





100 Mile Tour - Must be registered before July 13, 2013 and a minimum of 10 riders required to hold the 100 Mile Tour.

Grand Island Trail Marathon & Half Marathon

The course follows the perimeter trail of the island counterclockwise up past Murray Bay and Duck Lake. At three miles the course heads eastward into the Tombolo, up into the island's thumb and then back along Trout Bay where runners can enjoy one of the most spectacular stretches of shoreline anywhere in the Great Lakes. Runners then ascend up the eastern cliffs of the island which treat runners to views of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The northern half of the island features 300ft colored Jacobsville sandstone cliffs and the remote and exquisitely beautiful North Beach. The return trail on the island’s western shore features remarkable vistas of Lake Superior. Much of the trail is shaded by lush hardwood forests. Exposed sections (atop cliffs) blanket runners with cool breezes off of Lake Superior. Trail includes single track, two track, and narrow dirt roads.

History comes alive at Fort Wilkins. Battery D, 1st Michigan Light Artillery, a Civil War era living history group returns to Fort Wilkins for its 31st annual weekend encampment. The weekend event will be open to park visitors from 8 AM to 8 PM on Friday and Saturday and 8 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. Battery D will interpret army life of the period, demonstrating artillery and small arms drills, period cooking and soldiers’ pastimes. A Michigan State or Out of State Recreation Passport is required for entry into the park.

9th Annual Marquette Trail 50 Ultramarathon

The course consists of a 50 kilometer and 50 mile event. Also, new this year the course will include a loop from the new start-finish area (NTN-Forestville Trailhead) to Tourist Park (the old start-finish area) on new single-track. The course is mostly single-track climbing the 4 peaks: Sugarloaf, Top-of-the World, Bareback, and Hogsback outcrops. All the peaks have views of Lake Superior and some of the trail runs along the lake. Most of the trail is easy to moderate running with a few significant climbs and technical areas.
Also new this year is the Ultramarathon Relay - form a team and run the trails Friday before the solo event on Saturday, more details on our website.

11th Annual Aspirus Great Deer Chase Mountain Bike Race

The 11th Annual Great Deer Chase mountain bike race will be held on August 19 at the Swedetown Trail system off Swedetown Road in Calumet. The event, held in conjunction with Calumet's Heritage Days, will feature 15 and 28 mile cross country races as well as 3 and 4.25 mile youth races. There will also be a 40-yard Fawn Chase untimed youth race. Races start at 10 am (Eastern) at the Calumet Colosseum. An awards ceremony will be held at 4 pm. Rendezvous at the Straits Powwow

Enjoy two events in one. This family friendly historical event is part French Voyager re-enactment and part traditional Powwow. Visit French encampments, watch demonstrations, visit vendors displaying authentic wares and enjoy the sights and sounds of traditional native dancing, hoop dancing, native flute music and drumming ceremonies. Traditional foods, arts and crafts will also be available.

Special Activities will include: Blessing of the Grounds on Friday at noon and Grand Entry Saturday and Sunday at noon.

60th Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

Location: Mackinac Bridge
Join thousands of walkers and make the five-mile trek across the Mighty Mackinac Bridge! This annual trek occurs on Labor Day, the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge. Walkers begin in St. Ignace at the north end of the Bridge and walk south. The walk is one-way, and bus transportation is available to return you to St. Ignace until 2:30 p.m. The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. No one will be permitted to start walking after 11:00 a.m.





To alleviate some of the parking congestion at the Bridge View Park area, the Mackinac Bridge Authority, in cooperation with the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce, is providing FREE shuttle service from Little Bear East Arena, 275 Marquette Street in St. Ignace, to the bridge walk start line. Shuttles will make continuous circuits from Little Bear East Arena to the Bridge View Park and back between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. For more information visit www.stignace.com

The GREAT RACE from the Lower Falls to Lake Superior; Start the morning with this 17 1/2 mile, two-person professional canoe race as the paddlers brave the waters of the Tahquamenon River from the Lower Tahquamenon Falls to Lake Superior. A shorter (6 1/2 mile) one-person race begins at 3:30 at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River. A fun run for amateur paddlers is also offered. MCRA members conclude the event with a banquet and awards program.
