17th Annual YMCA Run/Walk

Our 17th Annual YMCA Run/Walk will be taking place on Saturday April 22nd. The course runs along beautiful Lake Superior, starting and finishing at the YMCA of Marquette County and promises to be a fun fitness event for the whole family. The event is open to all and includes a 10 mile, 10k, 5k and a 5K non competitive walk, one mile youth run and a toddler trot. Family fun, activities and refreshments will be provided throughout the morning. Registration for this event will be taken at either YMCA of Marquette County. This relay/run/bicycle event celebrates the heritage and recreational culture of Marquette County – all in the name of giving back to our community’s youth through the YMCA of Marquette County’s “Reach & Rise” youth mentoring program. Along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, from downtown Ishpeming to the iconic Ore Dock in Marquette, recreational and community enthusiasts of all ages will participate in a friendly timed downhill excursion on foot, bicycle, or as part of a relay team. Proceeds from the race will benefit the YMCA's Reach and Rise program.

Michigan Governor's Summer Residence Tours

Explore the Governor’s Summer Residence on Mackinac Island each Wednesday from June 1 to August 31. Built in 1902 as a private summer cottage by Lawrence A. Young, it has served as the Governor’s summer Residence since 1945. The residence was listed in the Michigan Register of Historic Places in October 1975. In November 1997, the house was named to the National Register of Historic Places, the official list of America’s most historic buildings and sites. Throughout this free tour, which lasts approximately 15 minutes, experienced docents will guide small groups through the first floor of the home.

Yoopers Ride Free provided by Pictured Rocks Cruises: If you are interested in taking the free cruise, live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and weather-permitting, cruises will depart every hour on the hour from the Munising City Pier on Saturday, June 10 and 11 starting at 9:00 a.m. and running until 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11 with a limit of 1,500 free tickets available per day. In order to obtain your free ticket, you must present in person a photo ID with an Upper Peninsula address at the Pictured Rocks Cruise ticket office those days. A child must be accompanied by a parent in the ticket office to receive a ticket.

21st Annual Antiques on the Bay Classic & Antique Car Show

The first of three auto-related events features original and restored classic and antique vehicles on display along the downtown waterfront. Grand Island Trail Marathon & Half Marathon

Location: Grand Island National Recreation Area
The course follows the perimeter trail of the island counterclockwise up past Murray Bay and Duck Lake. At three miles the course heads eastward into the Tombolo, up into the island's thumb and then back along Trout Bay where runners can enjoy one of the most spectacular stretches of shoreline anywhere in the Great Lakes. Runners then ascend up the eastern cliffs of the island which treat runners to views of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The northern half of the island features 300ft colored Jacobsville sandstone cliffs and the remote and exquisitely beautiful North Beach. The return trail on the island’s western shore features remarkable vistas of Lake Superior. Much of the trail is shaded by lush hardwood forests. Exposed sections (atop cliffs) blanket runners with cool breezes off of Lake Superior. Trail includes single track, two track, and narrow dirt roads.

Rendezvous in the Sault is a living history event that will take place along Historic Water Street on City Hall Grounds and at the Historic Homes. Local and visiting historical re-enactors will set up camps and displays with presentations and demonstrations on military and civilian life in the period of 1668-1840. Food, music, dancing, cannon firing, storytelling, crafts and games will be just some of the fun things to see and do on Saturday and Sunday of the last full weekend of July.

45th Annual Sault Summer Arts Festival

Tuesday, August 1, is the date of the 45th Annual Sault Summer Arts Festival, a juried exhibition and sale of fine arts and crafts, displayed by the artists themselves. The festival is held, rain or shine, on the grounds of Lake Superior State University. Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free of charge. The festival is sponsored as a public service by the Sault Area Arts Council.



The wide array of arts and crafts on display includes paintings, photographs, and prints; ceramics; jewelry; carvings, games and furniture; many items for the yard and garden; clothing, toys, stained and fused glass; wallets, belts and purses; maple syrup products, kettle corn, cinnamon roasted nuts, and much more.

9th Annual Marquette Trail 50 Ultramarathon

The course consists of a 50 kilometer and 50 mile event. Also, new this year the course will include a loop from the new start-finish area (NTN-Forestville Trailhead) to Tourist Park (the old start-finish area) on new single-track. The course is mostly single-track climbing the 4 peaks: Sugarloaf, Top-of-the World, Bareback, and Hogsback outcrops. All the peaks have views of Lake Superior and some of the trail runs along the lake. Most of the trail is easy to moderate running with a few significant climbs and technical areas.
Also new this year is the Ultramarathon Relay - form a team and run the trails Friday before the solo event on Saturday, more details on our website.

60th Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

Join thousands of walkers and make the five-mile trek across the Mighty Mackinac Bridge! This annual trek occurs on Labor Day, the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge. Walkers begin in St. Ignace at the north end of the Bridge and walk south. The walk is one-way, and bus transportation is available to return you to St. Ignace until 2:30 p.m. The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. No one will be permitted to start walking after 11:00 a.m.





To alleviate some of the parking congestion at the Bridge View Park area, the Mackinac Bridge Authority, in cooperation with the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce, is providing FREE shuttle service from Little Bear East Arena, 275 Marquette Street in St. Ignace, to the bridge walk start line. Shuttles will make continuous circuits from Little Bear East Arena to the Bridge View Park and back between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. For more information visit www.stignace.com
