Marquette County

Marquette Country, is a winner of 28 individual awards since 1999 including most recently in 2010, one of the Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Historic Trust in online voting. Located in the center of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which was recently named one of top ten destinations in the world to visit, Marquette Country is home to Northern Michigan University and one of two Olympic Training Centers in the United States. Recreation is the name of the game in the county. From hiking, biking, beach walking, skiing, snowmobiling, ice climbing, and snowshoeing, we have it all “just five minutes away” from any of our major cities.
The addition of the Founders Landing bike path in the lower harbor section of the city of Marquette adds a connector to the bike path along the eastern approach to the city enabling bikers to ride a ten mile paved path from Harvey out to Presque Isle Park all along the shore of Lake Superior. The Country Village in Ishpeming has a series of hiking and cross country ski trails. Of course, you can access the snowmobile and ATV trails from the village which makes this a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
