Mackinac Island Turtle Trek - A lantern-lit ski and snowshoeing trek through some of Mackinac Island's natural winter wonderland. The trail begins at Greaney Grove (corner of Arch Rock Road and Huron Road) with a bonfire and hot chocolate. The trail is groomed, track set, lit by lanterns and approximately two miles long. This is a free event sponsored by Mackinac State Historic Parks, Mackinac Island Community Foundation and the Mackinac Island Ski Club.

Stomp the Park

Make it your resolution to visit a Michigan State Park every month this year, and why not start out with Straits State Park's Stomp the Park event on January 5th. The self-guided lantern-lit snowshoe hike to watch the Mackinac Bridge light up for the evening is in partner with the North Country Trail Hiawatha Shore-To-Shore Chapter. A limited supply of snowshoes are available to borrow, and parking is located at the parking area near the park entrance. If there is a lack of snow, the event will still proceed along the hiking trail to the lake. 20th Annual Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race

The Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race features over 60 teams from across the continent. Classes include 4-dog, 6-dog, 8-dog and 10-dog, the races begin at 9:30am, with a new team taking off every few minutes. Come out to pet the dogs, meet the teams, and cheer them on during this all-day event! Activities include a bonfire and refreshments as well as food and merchandise concessions. Volunteers are needed to assist at the start/finish line, checkpoints, road crossings, concession and awards banquet. Sault Ste Marie Winter Ice Festival

Location: Downtown Sault Ste. Marie
Watch the excitement as award-winning sculptures use chainsaws, chisels, and blowtorches to create over 50 stacked ice sculptures in downtown Sault Ste. Marie. Two days of ice will produce amazing carvings! Sculptures are available for viewing 24 hours a day in front of participating business and will remain standing after the event – weather permitting. There will also be a display of ice sculptures at the corner of Ashmun St and Portage Ave near the pavilion structure. Saturday evening at 6pm gather at the corner of Ashmun St and Portage Ave for ICE WARS!!! The carvers will go head to head with chainsaws and chisels competing for the approval of the crowd! Downtown business will be open so you can stop in and warm up. Make a day of it with shopping and fantastic food downtown. Make a weekend of it and stay at one of Sault Ste. Marie’s lodging establishments.

Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship

Join us in 2019 as we celebrate the 13th anniversary of the Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship in St. Ignace, Michigan. St. Ignace is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, home of one of the largest pond hockey tournaments in North America, and the largest tournament in Michigan. The Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship will be played on Moran Bay, part of beautiful Lake Huron, one of the only locations where our 'pond' is actually one of the Great Lakes! In 2015 we had 200 teams, from 11 states, play over 320 games! We have several age and skill divisions, so your team can compete against others of the same skill level. Format of the games is: 4 on 4 hockey with NO GOALIES on thirty 75 'x 150' outside rinks with snow bank boards played on the 'wild ice' of Moran Bay in Lake Huron. Teams are guaranteed three games, and division winners will receive Labatt's sportsgear and a hardwood championship cup.

Straits State Park - Winter Family Fun Day

Get outside this evening to enjoy the beauty of winter with a self-guided lantern-lit snowshoe hike along the park trail to the lower campground with amazing Mighty Mac Bridge views. There will be warming fires on each end of the trail, and complimentary hot chocolate and s'mores will be available. There is a limited supply of snowshoes available to borrow, and parking is located at the parking area near the park entrance. 2019 Soo Locks Engineers Day

The perfect itinerary of family-friendly activities awaits you during Engineer’s Weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. The last weekend in June has something for everyone: spectacular vistas, unbridled power, and so much more. Best of all, it’s your once-per-year chance to sneak a peek behind the scenes at the Soo Locks. It’s the event that started it all – the one day when you can walk across the mighty Soo Locks walls and explore the buildings and special exhibits open only on this day – the last Friday in June. Engineer’s Day festivities are held from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The gates are open to allow visitors to explore on their own self-guided tours across the Locks and into historically important structures (Davis Building and the Administration Building) used solely for the work of one of the world’s busiest lock systems.
