Tahquamenon Falls River Boat Tours & the Famous Toonerville Trolley Wilderness Train Ride
Tour #1: Experience wilderness in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan via our 6 1/2 hour adventure. Take the combination train and riverboat tour that originated in 1927. First, ride 5 1/2 miles (35 minutes) aboard the longest 24 inch railroad in the country. Travel through the remote wilderness, the habitat many animals and birds. The train travels to the Tahquamenon River where the spacious riverboat Hiawatha awaits to take you on a 21 mile (2 hour) narrated cruse along the pristine river to the rapids. a 1/2 mile above the Upper Tahquamenon Falls. Throughout the river cruise the Captain gives commentary on points of interest, river history, Indian lore, and points out and describes wildlife and birds that may be seen along the way. The boat docks at the head of the rapids above the falls for 1 ¼ hours. Passengers may then enjoy a 5/8 mile nature hike through virgin forest to our own private viewing area of the mighty Falls. Hiking trail not handicap accessible. After guests return, the boat winds it's way back upstream to the waiting train. The Toonerville Trolley then transports everyone back to Soo Junction. While cruising the river enjoy sandwiches, snacks, and beverages from our excellent riverboat cafeteria and beverage bar, where food is served at popular prices. Restrooms on board. This is the only tour to Tahquamenon Falls. The tour departs at 10:30 AM returns 5.00 PM and open June 16, 2018 through October 6, 2018. Celebrating our 91st season. Family owned and operated. Tour #2 a 1 3/4 hour wilderness train ride. The Toonerville Trolley is the longest and one of the oldest 24 inch gauge railroads in the country. The train travels 5 1/2 miles through a remote wilderness area giving passengers a greater opportunity for seeing wildlife. Along the way identify some native tree species with a provided tree guide. When you reach the end of the line, a short stopover is made while the train is being switched. During the stopover passengers can enjoy a view of the Tahquamenon River. Snack Bar and restrooms facilities available. When switching is complete ride the Toonerville Trolley railroad back to Soo Junction. Please note: Only tour #1 goes to the falls.
