Pine Mountain Ski Jump
The Pine Mountain Ski Jump is the largest artificial ski jumping hill in the world. It is also home to the longest running competitive ski jumping tournaments in North America. Top jumpers from all over the world travel to Giant Pine Mountain to compete in the Pine Mountain Ski Jumping Tournament. Spectators from all over the world gather around the landing area to watch the jumpers travel over 55 mph at take off and fly over 400 ft. to their landing place. A new addition for the top of the landing area is the UP Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial features a lighted 90 ft. high flagpole with a large Garrison Flag. A large stone marker at the base of the flagpole honors Upper Peninsula Veterans from all branches of the Armed Services. There is also a sitting area with benches. This memorial is also an ongoing project to include veterans of other wars as well.
