Calling all winter wanderers of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, we need YOUR help! The U.P. is one of 20 nominees for USA Today’s Readers’ Choice 10Best Destinations for Snow in the country. Ten winners will be selected from the locations which consist mostly of skiing destinations out west and a few sprinkled in on the east coast. We are the only wintery Midwest location to be nominated, and we want to represent our region at number 1!

But we can’t do this without your help. This title is selected by readers alone, so we are asking you to cast your vote. Whether you’ve skied down our steep hills, snowshoed the lantern-lit trails, celebrated your holiday in our charming snow towns, raced behind a sled dog team or admired blustery photos from afar, please vote daily for our destination.

With an average annual snowfall of 200 inches, 3,000 miles of groomed trails and unforgettable shoreline and forest scenery, it’s hard to surpass winter in the U.P. Ice fishing is plentiful on our frozen inland lakes, and then you can visit over 300 frozen waterfalls for another adventure. As for skiing and snowboarding, the U.P. has some of the longest runs, highest verticals and deepest powder in the Midwest across nine resorts.

All of these are reasons for you to come here this winter to experience the season yourself if you haven’t. And if you have, what are you waiting for? The winter memories get better with each visit!

In previous years, the U.P. has earned USA Today’s Best Destination for Fall Foliage award and ranked in the top five destinations for its deciduous trees that turn into a technicolor landscape. We can’t wait to recognize our extraordinary winters with the same distinction. Both nominations were determined by an expert panel under USA Today. The Best destinations for Snow were nominated based on “winter activities, gorgeous snow globe landscapes and plenty of snow” per the voting site.

How to vote

Here’s how it works. Vote on USA Today daily. Send this out to your friends, family, U.P dwellers who may not know about the vote and anyone else you can think of. Then keep voting daily until the poll closes on Dec. 4, 2023, at noon. By the end, hopefully, we can boost our wintery wonderland adventurescape destination to the top spot. We appreciate your time voting and visiting the U.P.! Winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 15.
